Problem
After a few minutes of deliberation I finally figured out the cause and solution. The Zune software was trying to sync a song from the Zune HD to the computer. The song was corrupted though (played the first few seconds then stopped).
Solution
- Disconnect the Zune HD.
- Find the most recent song the Zune Software was attempting to sync and check that song (on the Zune HD) if it is corrupted.
- If that song is corrupted (or has problems playing) long press and select delete. Otherwise you'll have to go through your library and find what song file is causing the problem manually.
- Plug the Zune HD back into the computer with the cable and everything should be back to normal.
Best of luck and feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions.

Thank you so much! I couldn't sync my Zune HD correctly since 4/1/2013 and I couldn't locate the problem. Thanks to you I was able to delete an album that was corrupted somehow and causing the Zune software not to sync. You're a gem!
Thank you!! After uninstalling and reinstalling the Zune software and trying multiple reboots of both my PC and Zune I was about to give up. I came across this post and then went back and noticed that I was getting an error when my PC was trying to sync a certain episode of podcast. I just deleted that entire podcast from my library and then tried synching again. It worked without any problem. I'm guessing that file was corrupt somehow. Thanks so much for posting this!
